Schwaighausen can be explored on cycling tours that explicitly include the village in their route. There is also a listed stone bridge whose material, design and historical period are clearly described. When planning, it is worth distinguishing the tours by their routes, directions and the characteristics of the paths mentioned for each one.

A Listed Stone Bridge

The official list of monuments dated June 26, 2026, includes the listed bridge D-5-73-115-39 at Lindachstraße, Mühlbach and Schwaighausener Straße. It is a single-span stone bridge over the Mühlbach and dates from the 18th or early 19th century. The term “single-span” describes its design; the dating indicates a period rather than a specific year. Together, these features provide a specific historical landmark for anyone who also likes to look out for older buildings while travelling.

Cycling Tours with Different Routes

The “On Old Paths” cycling tour runs from Roßtal via Fernabrünst and Schwaighausen to Bürglein and Buchschwabach, then back to Roßtal. The sequence of villages makes the route easy to distinguish: Roßtal is the starting and return point, and Schwaighausen lies between Fernabrünst and Bürglein. As local route conditions can change, it is advisable to check the route before setting off.

Regional VGN Cycling Tour 6, “Fortified Churches – Faith and Refuge,” runs from Raitersaich via Bürglein, Großhabersdorf, Vincenzenbronn, Ammerndorf, Vogtsreichenbach, Cadolzburg, Seukendorf, Veitsbronn, Obermichelbach and Puschendorf. It turns off toward Schwaighausen and passes through the Bibertal and along Schwaighausener Straße. After leaving the village, it continues along a gravel path toward Großhabersdorf. The tour is not marked with permanent waymarkers. Therefore, check the surfaces and local signage before setting off.

For FAV Trail No. 104, marked with a yellow dot, the regional tour description gives a distance of 15.5 kilometres and rates it “very easy.” The description was available on August 31, 2026; route conditions may vary seasonally. The VGN tour focuses on the route and its lack of permanent waymarkers, while the FAV trail is specified by its distance and difficulty rating.

In the Wider Destination of Großhabersdorf

The village walk in Großhabersdorf uses marked information boards and window displays to show parts of the historic building stock and their significance. This creates a visual comparison between buildings, streets and squares in the past and today. A map of the municipality shows the locations of the information boards. The walk is particularly interesting if you would like to explore local history through visible changes to the streetscape.

On the north exterior wall of the Evangelical Lutheran St. Walburga Church in Großhabersdorf is a Mount of Olives group of sandstone figures, probably created around 1500. The approximate dating is part of the historical account. Another historical point of reference is the history of the village: Großhabersdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1169. According to the municipality, the Franks founded the village during the Carolingian era, in the 7th or 8th century. The founding period and the first documented mention are therefore two different chronological reference points.

The inns “Gelber Löwe” (1683) and “Zum Roten Roß” (1697), built after the war, are still considered ornaments of the village today. The two names and dates provide further specific reference points for the historic village landscape; they do not indicate that food and drink are served there today or that visitors can enter.

Hiking in the Wider Destination of Großhabersdorf

A hike starts at the western edge of Großhabersdorf, heading toward Ansbach/Dietenhofen, and takes about one to two hours. The duration is approximate, and route conditions may change. The starting point and direction provide an initial guide for anyone who would like to plan a hike as well as cycling tours.

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide what matters most to you: cycling on routes that explicitly include Schwaighausen, or exploring local history and hiking in the wider destination of Großhabersdorf. The specific routes, the stone bridge and the historic sites offer different points of reference for your decision.
