Water and Urban Nature Along Dedicated Trails
The 3.5-kilometre Wasserleben Trail runs along Kreutweg in Puchheim-Ort. Its nine stops explore the local water supply and the journey water takes. This trail focuses on a specific subject that unfolds step by step.
The Puchheim Urban Nature Trail, created in 2019, offers a different perspective. Four stops focus on threatened habitats and how they can be preserved or newly created. There is also an area along the trail where young and old can play boules. Nature topics and a shared activity sit side by side here.
The wild bee garden on Alte Bahnhofstraße was officially opened in 2021. To protect wild bees, a nutrient-poor meadow and a species-rich flower meadow were sown there. Other features include a herb spiral, a sandarium, a wild bee nesting aid and a deadwood area. The different elements illustrate habitat protection in a variety of ways.
The Puchheim Tree Trail offers another layer of information: visitors can use their smartphones to access further information about the trees via a QR code installed there. In Puchheim-Ort, the Kneipp facility on Alte Bahnhofstraße, level with the Feuerwehrwiese, invites visitors to walk through the water of the Gröbenbach. Cycling Routes and Travel Information
The Munich–Augsburg Cycle Route crosses Puchheim from east to west, coming from Munich and continuing to Fürstenfeldbruck. The route was formerly called the Isar–Lech Cycle Route. A section of the Munich Cycle Ring runs through Puchheim along the Gröbenbach and the Großer Ascherbach; it continues from Germering in the south towards Gröbenzell and Dachau. Markus Heinsdorff’s installation “House of Cultures” stands on the lawn at the Puchheim Cultural Centre PUC. It consists of seven houses, each with a floor area of eight square metres (3.8 × 1.86 metres) and a height of four metres. The installation is illuminated from dusk. A monument in the green space at the Puchheim Sports Centre also commemorates the Puchheim airfield. The installation and the monument offer distinct cultural points of interest: one is a work made up of several houses, the other a place of remembrance.
The Puchheim folk festival AUFTAKT has been held every spring for more than half a century. It features a large festival tent, brass band music, Bavarian beer and culinary specialities, as well as shooting galleries and fairground rides. A visit to the festival is quite different from following the themed trails through water and urban nature. If you want to plan your stay around the festival, check the dates for your travel period.
The weekly market takes place at Grüner Markt in Puchheim-Bahnhof every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you’re planning a visit, it’s a good idea to check the opening hours in advance.
