Nature and the circular trail in the Amper Valley

The riverside forests, reed beds and wet meadows give the Amper Valley a variety of landscapes along the river. There are also numerous oxbow lakes. For anyone interested in nature and waterways, they provide a specific starting point for exploring the surrounding area.

The “Fish, Beer and Moorland” circular trail starts and ends in Hebertshausen and is about 21 kilometres long. It is accessible, among other options, via Hebertshausen S-Bahn station or the Ammer-Amper cycle route. The distance is an important factor when planning your outing. Church and memorial site

The Old St George’s Church combines a recent redesign with an artistic work inside: it was extensively restored and redesigned between 2014 and 2020. Another focal point is the memorial site at the former Hebertshausen SS shooting range. In 2014, the former shooting range was redesigned as a memorial with an outdoor exhibition. The exhibition and panels offer different ways to engage with the site: the exhibition brings together various types of documents and images, while the panels provide information along the trail.

Historic sites in the municipality

The municipality’s history also includes buildings in other districts. Deutenhofen Castle was built by the Barons of Mandl. The castle in Oberweilbach includes a two-storey main building with a hipped roof, built in 1692. The late Gothic Chapel of St Martin, renovated in 1845, is integrated into the building.

The Catholic branch church of St John the Baptist, also in Oberweilbach, was built by Carl Lärlinger in 1711. The Catholic parish church of St Peter on Kirchenstraße dates from the late 15th century, was built over an older core and was extended in 1839. Another historic connection to the Amper Valley is the castle built above the valley in the 12th century, whose grounds included a Romanesque chapel. This building history complements the more recent art and memorial sites with evidence from several different centuries.

Regional products and choosing where to stay

Biohof Hirschvogel in Hebertshausen sells eggs and pasta produced on the farm, as well as potatoes and onions grown there to Bioland standards. The self-service shop is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. This may be useful when planning your trip if you would like to include regional produce in your stay.
