History

The documented origins of the settlement include an estate called Öd, which was first mentioned in 1180 and later became known as Schenkenöd.

Around 1390, Wilhelm von Fraunhofen took over the estate, rebuilt its castle, and named it Neuen Fraunhofen; at the same time, the other Fraunhofen became known as Alten Fraunhofen.
