The interactive “ErLebnis Geschichte” museum at Kastnerhaus features the permanent exhibitions “4000 Years Hidden – The Treasure of Langquaid” and “Freed to Bavaria’s Praise – Langquaid and the Wittelsbachs”. The titles highlight different topics: one focuses on the Treasure of Langquaid, while the other connects the town with the Wittelsbachs. This brings together two named themes from the town’s history in the same museum.
Paring, in the northeast of Langquaid, also preserves historical traces: remains of a once extensive monastery complex, grouped around St. Michael’s Church, have survived on the monastery hill. A longer route also leads beyond the town. The market town of Langquaid and the pilgrimage church of St. Ottilia lie along the 115-kilometre Klöster- & Kirchenrunde (Monasteries & Churches Trail), part of the European pilgrimage route VIA NOVA. This circular route thus offers a different scale from the historical topics explored at the museum and in Paring.
Festivals on different dates
A pilgrimage festival is held every year in Hellring, north of Langquaid, on the second Sunday in October. The Langquaider Bürgerfest follows a different schedule: this traditional festival takes place every two years in June. Three circular trails starting at Marktweiher
Three circular trails begin in the Marktweiher recreation area, each with a different length and theme. The Nature Experience Trail is about three kilometres long, while the Forest Educational Trail is six kilometres. The Legends and Folktales Trail covers about 15 kilometres. The options therefore range from a comparatively short loop to a considerably longer route.
The names also give the trails distinct themes: nature experiences, forests, and legends or folktales.
