Traditional markets in town, paths along the Rodach nature reserve and a nature trail with views of the Steinach Valley and the Thuringian Forest give Redwitz a.d. Rodach its many different facets. There is also an outdoor swimming pool and activities nearby. When planning your visit, consider whether you want to focus on a market day, paths through the river landscape or a few active stops.

Markets and Local Life

Traditional markets are held several times a year in Redwitz, on the market square and at other locations around town. The former monthly market has been discontinued. If you are planning a visit to a market, check the date in advance. The market square is also the starting point for the Redwitz Nature Trail, so the market and the circular route offer two different reasons to explore the town.

Paths Through the River Landscape

The difference is clear when choosing a route: the Redwitz Nature Trail is a circular route that starts at the market square, passes through the Rodach nature reserve and Unterlangenstadt, and returns to the market square. The Three Rivers Trail Rodach–Steinach–Main runs through Redwitz territory, from the cycle path by the recycling center through the Gries, over the Old Rodach Bridge and along the Rodach into the nature reserve.

The varied river landscape around the nature reserve on the Rodach can be explored on foot or by bike. The circular nature trail in Mannsgereuth passes through shady woodland and offers views of the Steinach Valley and the Thuringian Forest. Views depend on conditions along the route. Check local trail conditions before setting out, too.

Activity and Swimming

Redwitz outdoor swimming pool has a fully renovated 50-metre sports and swimming pool, as well as a children's pool. Facilities may change, so check the latest information before visiting. Not far from the pool, you can try out tricks on skateboards, inline skates, BMX bikes and scooters along the field consolidation path from Gässla/Weiherdammstraße toward Unterlangenstadt.

Pilgrimage Routes Through Unterlangenstadt

The Ave Maria Route and the Magnificat Route pass through Unterlangenstadt, a district of Redwitz. Together, the pilgrimage routes extend for around 1,100 kilometres across Upper and Central Franconia and lead to 40 Marian sites. They complement outings to the Rodach nature reserve with a theme of their own: the Marian sites along the pilgrimage routes.

In the Wider Lichtenfels Destination

Lichtenfels Old Town has retained its typically Franconian character: the Bamberger Gate and Kronacher Gate are still standing, and parts of the old town wall remain visible. The Lichtenfels Basket Market takes place every year on the third weekend in September.

The 14-kilometre Pfad der Flechtkultur (Weaving Culture Trail) offers another glimpse into the history of craftsmanship, linking Lichtenfels and Michelau along nature-friendly paths through the Main floodplains. Its 23 information panels cover the history and tradition of basketmaking, the basket industry and the basket trade along the Upper Main. Near Oberwallenstadt, trail features include a willow labyrinth for children, a willow shell in the riverside swimming area, a woven teepee at Oberwallenstadt's Ortswiesensee lake and other examples of woven art. The Lichtenfels City Palace houses municipal collections on the history of beer and brewing, the railway and the basket trade; exhibition content may change. Check the latest information before visiting.

When looking for a holiday apartment in Redwitz, it helps to decide what you want from your trip: if you want your stay to revolve around a particular market day, check its date first; if you prefer time in nature, the circular routes and river landscape offer a different focus.
