Circular Hiking Trails and Starting Points
The Pressiger Berg Trail R 61 is a circular hiking trail that passes through Pressig and the districts of Rothenkirchen and Friedersdorf. Along the way, it offers views of the Haßlachtal valley. The Rauher Berg Trail R 68 also passes through these three places as it circles Pressiger Berg. One difference lies in the focus described: the R 61 includes views of the Haßlachtal valley, while the R 68 circles Pressiger Berg. The FrankenwaldSteigla Pfaffenbergweg starts at the Rothenkirchen sports ground. East of Pressig, the Eila Trail R 67 is a circular hiking trail; its destination is the elaborately designed slate houses of Eila.
The Kreuze Trail R 65 is also a circular hiking trail and starts at the car park of the open-air swimming pool on the outskirts of Rothenkirchen. About 50 metres up the road stands the sheet-metal silhouette cross belonging to the Suffa family, flanked by two hawthorn trees and known as the Hermeskreuz. A detour of about 300 metres towards Friedersdorf leads to a sandstone wayside shrine: its shaft is corkscrew-shaped and decorated with grapevines. The inscription on the base names Johann Baderschneider, a citizen of Friedersdorf, and the year 1757.
Rothenkirchen Natural Swimming Pool
The Rothenkirchen natural swimming pool has a swimming pool with a shallow-water area and entry steps. Other facilities include a sun terrace, a diving rock, a mud play area, a baby pool, a play stream, a playground and a large sunbathing lawn. Opening hours are seasonal; check the current times before your visit.
The Landleitenbachtal in the district of Rothenkirchen has cycling and hiking trails, tennis courts, a youth campsite and the natural adventure pool. If needed, check in advance which facilities are open.
Posseck and the Wider Landscape
Posseck is one of the oldest places in the municipality of Pressig; it was first mentioned in a document as far back as 1180. It is home to a Gothic fortified church with Baroque altars. The combination of these two periods is already evident from the architectural features mentioned.
In the wider destination of Kronach, the larger northeastern part of the district lies in the Franconian Forest, a densely wooded, gently rounded upland region with many valleys at elevations of around 500 to just over 700 metres. The rest of the district lies in the northern part of the Obermainisches Hügelland. This region slopes down southwest from the Franconian Forest to around 300 to 500 metres and features escarpments and terraces. Most of the district lies in the catchment area of the Rodach and its tributaries, which flow southwest towards the upper Main.
