Experience the moorland and the Tiroler Ache

Staudach-Egerndach is located near Hochgern, the Tiroler Ache and the Egerndacher Filze raised bog. The Filze are designated and protected meadow-breeding bird areas. The embankment path along the Tiroler Ache is suitable for walking, cycling and jogging. A nearby moorland discovery trail allows visitors to experience the moorland over several kilometres.

For a more leisurely outing, the Kleine Moorrundweg is a good choice. It leads through the Egerndacher and Staudacher Filzen and includes various stations on the subject of moorland. The trail is level and has no significant incline, making it suitable for older people and small children; it can also be used with a stroller. At various stations, there is information about the moorland as well as quiet places to relax. This makes it possible to plan a nature experience without devoting the entire day to a more demanding hike.

Hike to the alpine pastures with views of Hochgern

Anyone wishing to make the mountain more central to their plans can choose the Vorderalm – Brachtalm – Staudacher Alm circular trail. The hike to the alpine pastures offers views of Hochgern from its distinctive, rugged northern side and begins at the Holzlagerplatz hiking car park in Mühlwinkel. Hochgern is 1,748 metres high. From Staudacher Alm, the view also extends towards Hochgern and the Zwölferspitz.

Staudacher Alm is an alpine hut built of natural stone at an elevation of 1,150 metres. Hearty snacks are served there. This difference between the moorland trail, the valley area and the hike to the alpine pastures can be helpful when choosing your accommodation: if you are mainly planning walks and nature observation, your daily itinerary will have a different focus than on a trip centred on mountain trails and alpine pasture destinations.

Churches, history and art

Culture can also be included in your trip. Built in 1640, the Schnappenkirche stands on Schnappenberg in the municipality of Marquartstein at an elevation of 1,100 metres and belongs to the Staudach-Egerndach parish. Hiking trails lead from Staudach-Egerndach through the mountain forest to the church. From there, you can look out over the Chiemgau and Lake Chiemsee.

St. Andrew’s Church in Egerndach was first mentioned in a document in 1260. The present Catholic parish church dates from the second half of the 15th century. An information panel at the church gives visitors and local residents a brief insight into its history. At the Atelierfenster, a small exhibition space in Staudach-Egerndach, the visual arts in the Chiemgau region are promoted and appreciated. Visits to the studio are also possible by prior arrangement.

Cycle paths and special routes

For mountain bikers, the MTB 31 Brachtalm tour starts in Staudach-Egerndach at the Holzlagerplatz Mühlwinkl. The tour passes the church and follows the cycle path towards Bergen. The “Achen-Achter for Gravel” cycling tour begins at the bridge over the Tiroler Ache in Staudach, initially follows the cycle path along the Ache and continues via Egerndach and along the Staudach-Egerndach Filze.

The Planet Trail runs between Staudach-Egerndach and Marquartstein and provides insights into our solar system. It was created by students from the Landschulheim Marquartstein secondary school. The “Playground and Treats Route” leads via the Achendamm, also known as the Planet Trail, to the last playground in Staudach-Egerndach. This allows you to choose between moorland, mountains, culture, a cycle route and a route with a designated destination when planning your holiday.
