Velburg’s town hall is a 22 m-high building in the Neo-Gothic style. Its richly articulated, battlemented façade gives it a striking appearance. The town hall was built from 1863 to 1865, replacing its dilapidated predecessor. The construction period and the new building on this site also give the building a historical dimension: it tells of change in the town, without requiring a long list of additional dates. For architecture enthusiasts, its height, articulated façade and battlements are specific features to look out for.
Today, the North Gate is Velburg’s only surviving and still visible town gate. Its significance lies in being the sole remaining visible example of this type of structure in town.
