Walkertshofen lies on both sides of the Neufnach. On a hill in the middle of town stands the Catholic parish church of St. Alban: visible from afar, its distinctive tower is the landmark of Walkertshofen. The municipality is located in the Augsburg–Western Forests Nature Park. St. Alban reflects several phases of construction. In the 12th century, a Romanesque church was built on the site of today’s parish church, most likely by the local nobility of the time. Parts of the nave’s north wall date back to this first phase of construction. The nearly 40-metre-high, unplastered tower, by contrast, belongs to the late Gothic period. Together with its prominent location, it makes the church a defining feature of the townscape. The paths around Walkertshofen appeal to a range of interests. The Staudenparadies on the connecting road to Grimoldsried is suitable for a short walk or as a refreshment stop on a longer hike. Its nine stations are based on the wisdom of the world’s major religions and invite visitors to pause and meditate.
