Chapels, frescoes and Roding’s history

Roding’s Dance of Death fresco is located along the old cemetery wall. It was probably created around the middle of the 17th century, based on an earlier model. St. Joseph’s Chapel adds to this historical focus: it was originally the baptistery of Roding’s original church, dating from the 7th or 8th century.

The upper floor, added later to St. Joseph’s Chapel, contains frescoes from the 13th and 14th centuries. They were executed using Romanesque and Gothic fresco-secco techniques. St. Anne’s Chapel is built onto the old cemetery wall and replaced an earlier building around 1650. Together, the chapels and the Dance of Death fresco invite visitors to discover Roding from a cultural and historical perspective as well.

Another way to explore the town’s history is at the Roding Fire Brigade Museum. Spanning two floors, it displays more than 250 historic firefighting tools, uniforms and documents. Its extensive collection makes the museum a destination in its own right for visitors interested in the history of technology and everyday life. The program at Fronfeste Cultural Center changes from one event to the next: it hosts exhibitions, theater, films and cabaret. Leisure at Esper and the Regen

The leisure area at Esper is located directly on the Regen River and offers activities for different age groups. These include a skate park with a mini ramp, ledges and a box. The Jungle Arena is also at Esper: its climbable dome structure and pyramid-shaped octanet are key features of the adventure course. The structure is more than six meters high and offers views of the surrounding trees and the Regen floodplains.

The leisure area also includes a water adventure platform directly on the Regen, designed for experiencing nature. The disc golf course combines sport, nature and strategy. On the course along the Regen River, the targets are metal baskets with chains. You can borrow discs for the course from the nearby clubhouse of BSV Vaillant e. V., or buy them at the town hall or the Tourist Information office. This information is especially useful if you are considering playing disc golf and want to know where you can get discs.
