Langfurth combines a multi-generational playground in the town with nature and cultural attractions across the municipality. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your stay around your preferred interests: forests and signposted trails, the swimming pond in Ammelbruch, or historic churches in Dorfkemmathen and Ammelbruch offer different starting points. Several of these destinations are in districts of the municipality, not in the town of Langfurth itself.

Forest, water and activities for children

The municipality of Langfurth lies in the Hesselberg recreational area and close to the Franconian Lake District. The municipality has extensive forests as well as signposted hiking and cycling trails. If you would like to include exercise and nature in your holiday, these offer two clear points of reference: the forests and the marked trails.

Another highlight is in Ammelbruch. There, the swimming pond covers just under one hectare. Activities for children at the pond include a 30-metre zip line, a nest swing and a pirate ship. Langfurth also has a multi-generational playground. These different locations and facilities give families practical ideas for planning holiday days between the playground and the water.

Churches and historic traces

The Catholic chapel in Langfurth has a history dating back to the early 20th century. In spring 1902, eleven Langfurth families decided to build it; the project was completed in spring 1903. The chapel is privately owned by eight families. A visit should therefore not be assumed to be open to the public; check in advance whether a visit is possible.

In Dorfkemmathen, the Church of St Mary, “To Our Lady,” shapes the historic character of the village. It was built in the mid-15th century in the Late Gothic style on a slight rise above the village, within a formerly fortified churchyard. The church’s choir was recorded as completed in 1452. Beside the portal is a three-part wooden relief depicting the Last Judgment, which was probably created around 1500 and serves as an altar. The church also contains a Late Gothic crucifix and a Late Gothic crown of the Virgin.

The probably Romanesque Church of St Peter in Ammelbruch tells a different story of construction. It was built under the Lords of Warberg and dedicated to the Apostle Peter. Its Romanesque features include a round tower between the square bell tower and the Late Gothic choir. The second documented church reconstruction took place in the second half of the 15th century. During the Thirty Years’ War, the church was badly devastated and looted; it was completely restored during renovations from 1752 to 1755. The churches in Dorfkemmathen and Ammelbruch thus offer distinct historical and architectural features.

Tradition and finding the right holiday apartment

An annual event in the municipality is the memorial service at the Augustana Monument in Matzmannsdorf. Since 1980, it has been held on the second Sunday in July to commemorate the Augsburg Confession. In Dorfkemmathen, Hutung is also one of the municipality’s sights.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Langfurth, it helps to first sort out your interests: would you like to focus on the playground, the pond, the churches, or the forests and hiking areas?
