Bad Saulgau can be explored in many different ways: themed trails introduce you to water, nature and the history of the Earth, while the museum and old town offer insights into the city’s past. The moorland of the Booser-Musbacher Ried is another special experience. When choosing your holiday apartment, you can therefore consider whether you want to focus on nature trails, historical topics or both during your stay.

Discover water and nature on a variety of trails

Near Bad Saulgau, the Water Theme and Adventure Trail in and around Bad Saulgau follows boardwalks and well-maintained paths. Nine information boards explaining life in and around the water complement the barrier-free exploration of the waterways. The trail combines exercise with engaging insights into the world of water.

The Nature and History Trail in Braunenweiler offers a different focus. Created in 2024, the circular trail is in Braunenweiler, a district of Bad Saulgau, is about 8.7 kilometres long and is mostly barrier-free. Several stops explore nature and history. If you want to discover both together, this clearly defined circular route is a good option; its approximate length can help you plan your day.

At 43 kilometres, the Georundweg (Geological Circular Trail) is considerably longer and is suitable for hiking and cycling. Its informative stops share knowledge about the history of the Earth, how the landscape formed, local soils, and flora and fauna. The first information board, with an overview map, is at the market square, where the trail begins. Numerous car parks and parking garages are available in Bad Saulgau for visitors to the Georundweg.

Moorland and discoveries at the Nature Theme Park

Five hiking trails run through meadows, moors and woodland in the Booser-Musbacher Ried landscape and nature conservation area. The trails are between 2.2 and 5 kilometres long. The area covers about 343 hectares and has been protected since 1991; around half of the nature reserve lies within the municipality of Bad Saulgau. The different trail lengths offer a clear guide when deciding whether you prefer a shorter or longer hike through the moorland.

The Bad Saulgau Nature Theme Park offers ACTIVE tours, CREATIVE tours and specialist guided tours for children, adults and professional audiences. Learning, active experiences and playful discoveries provide different ways to engage with nature. The adult tour “Water – From the Thermal Baths to the Stream” follows Bad Saulgau’s thermal water from its source, through its use, and back into nature. At the Info Point, you can also learn more about local wildlife and plant life; a beaver is on display there, and you can feel its fur.

City history, traditions and special places

The Bad Saulgau City Museum presents local history from the Celtic period to the post-war era. It also explains the history and significance of local traditions through documents, exhibits and audiovisual media. A visit to the museum thus complements a classic city tour, which takes you through the historic old town and introduces you to more than 1,200 years of city history.

For children and adults, the family tour brings the city’s history to life with stories, small tasks and exciting places to discover. If you would rather take the historical tour without this family-focused element, you can choose the classic tour. St. Mark’s Monastery and Parish Church is a spiritual place for pilgrims and visitors. Its architecture and rich history invite you to pause and reflect on the symbolism of faith.

Bad Saulgau offers a range of themes for your trip: a longer tour exploring geological topics, trails through water and moorland, or a closer look at city history and local traditions. Choose where to stay based on which of these discoveries interests you most, and make time for the focus that suits your trip.
