Hillside Castle and Local History

Zuzenhausen Hillside Castle was probably built above the village around 1250. Its shield wall dates from the late 14th century, is 3.6 metres thick and 20 metres high, and measures about 30 metres in length. This distinguishes the castle’s probable construction date from the later date of this striking architectural feature. The measurements give the structure a tangible scale. However, an important point to bear in mind when visiting is that the ruin is in poor condition and cannot be entered. So do not plan to walk around inside the site.
