Art and History in Creglingen
The Church of Our Lord is located in the Herrgott Valley, about one kilometre south of Creglingen. It houses the Marian altar by Tilman Riemenschneider. The Lindleinturm also tells the story of the town: as a defensive and watchtower, it formed part of Creglingen’s late-medieval fortifications. Space is limited for visits: no more than six people can visit the tower at a time. It is therefore best suited to smaller groups or groups with plenty of time to spare.
The Creglingen Jewish Museum explores the Jewish history of Creglingen and Archshofen from the early 17th century to 1939 in its “Roots and Paths” exhibition. Information boards along Mühlweg offer another perspective on the town’s history. The route leads to the Church of Our Lord and the Thimble Museum; both are about one kilometre outside the town. From Creglingen, they can be reached via Mühlweg or the Creglingen–Münster road. Guided town tours are available in German and Russian, including a tour following in Riemenschneider’s footsteps.
Streams, Meadows and Roses
The Herrgottsbach flows directly into the upper reservoir of the Münster Lakes. A fishery educational trail, meadows, the stream and woodland offer ways to relax and explore. The Münster Lakes also have a Kneipp pool and a short barefoot sensory path at the water playground. These add more waterside activities to your nature outing.
Roses are a special local discovery: Reinhold Schneider specifically grows medicinal and fragrant roses in Creglingen and cultivates more than 100 wild rose varieties in his fields. He offers seminars and guided tours. Pension Metzger offers rose seminars featuring historic fragrant roses. If you would rather explore traditional food production, you can attend bread-making seminars at MANZ Backtechnik GmbH in Münster, a district of Creglingen.
