Nature Trails Through Landscapes and Exercise

The nature trail is a 4.5 km circular route with 34 information boards. The landscapes along the route include orchards, dry grassland, stone walls, streamside meadows and the castle forest. If you want to take in the different landscape features as you walk, this route offers a clearly stated length and numerous stops. You can include the circular route in your plans for the day.

The forest nature trail offers a shorter route: this 1.2 km circular walk can also be enjoyed without difficulty with a pram, wheelchair or rollator. This gives you a different focus when choosing what to do than the longer nature trail. The Niederstetten fitness trail, in turn, runs for around 1 km over Schlossberg hill. Its twelve stations feature mobility and strengthening exercises. The three routes therefore differ in length, landscape and exercise options.

Attractive half-timbered houses define the look of the historic town centre. A historical town tour offers one way to get to know the town from this perspective. Haltenbergstetten Castle is a three-storey complex with four wings. It was built largely between 1550 and 1572 in the styles of the late Gothic and early Renaissance. The wine press and viticulture museum is housed in Niederstetten’s wine press, built in 1803. Around 200 exhibits show the conditions under which the area’s winegrowers and vintners produced and processed wine in the 19th century. The focus is therefore on traditional working methods and wine processing. By contrast, the Albert Sammt Museum is dedicated to the life and work of Albert Sammt, the airship commander born in Niederstetten. The extensive Zeppelin exhibition also covers his service as an officer aboard the ill-fated Hindenburg.

The Tacheles Trail commemorates Hermann Umfrid and Jewish life in Niederstetten. It also represents an appreciation of civil courage, compassion and tolerance in community life. The village lock-up offers a different perspective on the past: original 19th-century furnishings provide an insight into everyday life in Niederstetten at the time.

Horse Market and Getting There

The traditional Niederstetten horse market takes place every year and centres on horses and their presentation. The programme includes around 100 horses of all breeds and an equestrian show at Frickentalplatz. There is also a large market in Lange Gasse and numerous special exhibitions in the town centre. If you want to plan your trip around this event, the horse market offers a different focus for your visit than the nature trails and museums.

Niederstetten can be reached by train or bus. The Tauberbahn is recommended for the outbound journey; return journeys are possible with Tauberbahn mobil.
