Art in the Townscape and Special Places

The Besigheim Sculpture Trail leads through a collection of sculptures and artworks integrated into the landscape and townscape. It invites you to take a walk through Besigheim. You encounter art not just as an individual destination, but as part of the route through the town.

The “Stones of Remembrance” exhibition project at the Old Cemetery offers a different focal point. There, 21 Jura limestone stelae are arranged in a diagonal line along a 120-metre axis. The installation remains permanently at the cemetery. This distinguishes the artworks distributed throughout the townscape and landscape along the trail from the clearly arranged row of stelae at this site.

The Castle, Tower and Town Hall History

The Schochenturm also provides a point of reference in time: it was built around 1220 and is 31 metres tall. The town hall was built in 1459 as a market hall. Inside, there are painted stone and wooden walls as well as Baroque stucco ceilings; the stucco ceilings were uncovered and restored in 1977. Together, these buildings show different facets of Besigheim’s history.

Winegrowing, Views and Events

The wine information pavilion on the Himmelsleiter was completed in 2021. Its panels provide information about steep-slope winegrowing and the importance of preserving the steep slopes. At the Weinkanzel on Niedernberg, there are two routes: along the Löchgauer Steige or via the Himmelsleiter and its steps. A total of 85 metres of elevation must be covered; the Kanzel offers a view of Besigheim. In this way, information panels and the viewpoint offer different perspectives on winegrowing.

A wine experience guide accompanies an evening walk through Besigheim, sharing information about the landscape, winegrowing and the work of the local winegrowers on the steep slopes.
