Hausen im Wiesental: Following in Hebel’s Footsteps
Accommodation in Hausen im Wiesental
Hausen im Wiesental is closely associated with Johann Peter Hebel and his Alemannic literature. The poet, educator and theologian (1760–1826) lived in the Hebel House during his childhood. At the annual Hebel Festival in his hometown, his poems and calendar stories come to life. In Hausen, biographical traces and literary tradition thus meet.

Hebel House and Hiking Trails
The Hebel House, the municipality of Hausen’s literary museum, lies along the Hebel Hiking Trail. Those interested in Hebel’s life can therefore explore his connection to the town along a route. The trail is about 60 kilometres long and follows marked hiking trails maintained by the Black Forest Hiking Association, from the source of the Wiese on the Feldberg to the Schifflände in Basel.
The route can be walked in either direction or in individual stages. This offers different ways to include the trail in your travel plans, rather than committing to a single direction or the entire route. In Hausen, the Hebel Hiking Trail passes by the Hebel House. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
The Literary Cycle Route offers another connection to Hebel. It leads upstream through the Wiesental Valley to the poet’s hometown. The hiking and cycling routes therefore offer different perspectives: the hiking route runs from the Feldberg to Basel and can be walked in stages, while the cycle route heads upstream towards Hebel’s hometown. Which option suits your stay better depends on whether you want to focus on a hiking trail or a cycling route.
Culture and Landscape in the Wider Destination of Lörrach
The wider destination of Lörrach also offers cultural attractions. The Dreiländermuseum Lörrach has a permanent exhibition covering around 1,000 square metres. The Lörrach Sculpture Trail runs through the town and features 23 sculptures, fountains and monuments created by renowned sculptors. The cultural programme at Burghof Lörrach includes singing and music, dance, cabaret, literature and children’s theatre. Burghof Lörrach GmbH also organises the international STIMMEN Festival every year. The Lörrach weekly market in the town centre has been running since 1403.
Viticulture on Tüllinger Berg offers another perspective. From Lörrach-Tüllingen, the Tüllinger Wine Trail connects the Riehen Wine Trail with the Weiler Wine Trail. Together, the connected wine trails pass through around 90 hectares of vineyards. The Tüllinger Wine Trail offers views of the Wiesental and Rhine valleys and insights into the work of winegrowers throughout the year. Thus, in the wider destination of Lörrach, vineyard landscapes and seasonal work in viticulture complement the cultural attractions.
Choose the Right Holiday Apartment as Your Base
When looking for a holiday apartment, start by considering what you want your stay to focus on: Hebel’s life and the paths around the Hebel House in Hausen, or cultural and scenic destinations in the wider destination of Lörrach as well. Compare the accommodation’s location with the places you want to visit, and take trail conditions into account when planning hikes. This helps you choose a location based on the experiences that matter to you—from literature and hiking to cultural events and vineyard landscapes.
