History

At the beginning of the 17th century, Großbettlingen had around 250 inhabitants; warfare and epidemics during the Thirty Years’ War reduced the population to about 40.

The village school is first documented for the year 1600, resumed operations in 1654, and received a new schoolhouse in 1675 as well as a replacement building in 1828.

The field name “Mühlwiesen” on the Autmut indicates the former existence of a medieval mill, which had already ceased operations at an early date.
