Königsbach-Stein between the Kraichgau and the Northern Black Forest
Accommodation in Königsbach-Stein
Königsbach-Stein lies between the Kraichgau and the Northern Black Forest. Local discoveries range from the delicate half-timbered town hall in Königsbach to a local history museum in Stein, as well as walking and hiking trails in and around the town. The boundary stones and Steiner Mittelberg also offer opportunities to learn about architectural and local history, as well as nature, from different perspectives.

Half-timbered architecture and local history
The half-timbered town hall in Königsbach is a delicate half-timbered building that has remained intact for more than three centuries. Its construction and long preservation make it a distinctive part of the townscape. Exploring Königsbach-Stein offers a tangible record of its architectural history alongside its landscapes and trails.
The old boundary stones around Königsbach-Stein have been documented in sections. This documentation includes photographs, descriptions of the engravings and surveyed locations. The focus is therefore not only on the stones themselves, but also on their carved markings and where they are located. Some stones may now be missing, so the documentation does not guarantee that every one can still be found on site.
The Batsch-Brestowatz Local History Museum
The Batsch-Brestowatz Local History Museum is located in the Amtsdienerhaus in Stein. Its collection includes traditional costumes, works by Batsch-Brestowatz painters, books and documents, an original refugee wagon, and various everyday objects belonging to the Danube Swabians. The exhibits thus range from clothing and art to written records and everyday items.
The museum is open on the first Sunday of each month from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., as well as by telephone appointment. Confirm the opening details directly with the museum before you travel. This will help you plan your museum visit reliably without having to assume a fixed day for your visit.
Trails and nature at Steiner Mittelberg
There are twelve walking and hiking trails in and around Königsbach-Stein, with numerous benches along the way. This offers various ways to enjoy the outdoors, while the half-timbered town hall and museum offer a different focus. If you are planning a particular route, check the current trail conditions before setting out.
On June 20, 1989, 39 hectares of Steiner Mittelberg were designated a nature reserve. Before visiting the Mittelberg area, check the applicable access rules. Königsbach-Stein’s location between the Kraichgau and the Northern Black Forest also helps orient further regional planning, without equating the town’s particular features with those of the entire region.
The Enzkreis as a wider travel destination
As a wider travel destination, the Enzkreis district is in the Northern Black Forest region, in the heart of Baden-Württemberg between the metropolitan areas of Stuttgart and Karlsruhe; it surrounds the independent city of Pforzheim. Its landscape is varied: the Kraichgau, with its fields, meadows and vineyards, is part of the northwestern Enzkreis. The Stromberg has wooded hills, gentle valleys and sunny vineyards. Juniper heaths, blackthorn, and hawthorn hedges characterize the sparse landscape of the Heckengäu; in the southwest, the Northern Black Forest opens up with fir forests, woodland meadows, plateaus and narrow valleys.
The Enzkreis also offers a range of cultural and outdoor activities. Neuenbürg Castle houses a branch museum of the Baden State Museum. The museum tour begins in the north wing with an immersive theatrical production of Wilhelm Hauff’s fairy tale “The Cold Heart.” In Freudenstein-Hohenklingen, a signposted panoramic circular hiking trail leads over hills and through vineyards and forests around the town. The Eppinger-Linien-Weg, in turn, is an art and history trail featuring installations between Eppingen and Mühlacker.
When choosing your holiday apartment, you can first consider whether you want your stay to focus mainly on the townscape, the local history museum and the trails in and around Königsbach-Stein, or whether you would also like to include destinations across the wider Enzkreis. For planning, check the locations and connections involved before settling on specific day-trip destinations.
