Churches and Architectural History in Bilfingen

The Bilfingen pilgrimage church was founded by Scottish monks in the 7th century; its first documented mention dates from 1193. Another architectural landmark is the historic Weinbrenner wine press, built in 1808 in the style of Friedrich Weinbrenner, Baden’s chief building director. The Catholic Church of the Most Holy Trinity was added much later. It was built between 1963 and 1966 to plans by architect Kuno Stärk.

The three buildings offer different perspectives on the passage of time: from the early foundation and its documented mention, through the wine press of 1808, to the church built in the 1960s. The Kämpfelbach Local History Museum is also part of the area’s historic character. It is housed in a former tithe barn belonging to Frauenalb Abbey, dating from 1598/99. The museum is currently closed to public visitors.

Walking Between Ersingen and Bilfingen

The Kämpfelbach Local Heritage Trail connects Ersingen and Bilfingen. Around five kilometres long, it leads through woods and fields and offers insights into local history. There is also a route for pedestrians and cyclists along the L 570 between Ersingen and Bilfingen. Construction of the approximately 500-metre-long path began in October 2020; it was completed in 2023. The Enzkreis: Landscapes and Culture

Kämpfelbach is in the Enzkreis district. The district belongs to the Northern Black Forest region in the heart of Baden-Württemberg, between the Stuttgart and Karlsruhe metropolitan areas, and surrounds the district-free city of Pforzheim. The tour begins in the north wing with an immersive theatrical production of Wilhelm Hauff’s fairy tale “The Cold Heart.” In Freudenstein-Hohenklingen, a signed circular panoramic hiking trail runs over the heights and through vineyards and forests around the village. The Eppingen Lines Trail offers a different focus: it is an artistic and historical hiking route with installations between Eppingen and Mühlacker.
