Discover Jettingen
Accommodation in Jettingen
Jettingen combines a panoramic cycle route with striking viewpoints and historical stories. The route and its individual sites have different points of focus: sometimes the landscape opens up before you, while at other times local traditions and former buildings take centre stage.

Panoramic views along the Jettingen loop
The Jettingen panoramic cycle route is about 25 kilometres long; its measured distance is 24.25 kilometres. As a circular route, it can practically be started anywhere. In total, the route passes 16 viewpoints. Information boards explain the panorama at each one, making the views themselves part of the cycle tour.
Official starting points are at the community centre, Oberjettingen cemetery, the FCU sports club in Unterjettingen, and at the inn in Sindlingen. If you want to start at one of these specific points, check the local information before setting off.
Views from the old water tower
The old Jettingen water tower stands at an elevation of 626 metres. From there, the view stretches across the hills of the Black Forest; on clear days, you can see as far as the Hornisgrinde and Feldberg. The tower is described as the highest point in the Böblingen district and the town of Nagold; the two meet there.
The old water tower is also surrounded by a narrow strip of the original Heckengäu landscape, of which little remains elsewhere. There is a barbecue area at the edge of the forest by the sports ground.
Castle history, local legend and rampart remains
The castle in Sindlingen was the widow’s residence of Franziska von Hohenheim. She was first the mistress and later the second wife of Duke Karl Eugen of Württemberg. This historical connection gives the castle a special place in the town’s history.
A different story is recalled by the wooden monument “Beim Arm”: it stands on the panoramic cycle route about six kilometres past Oberjettingen cemetery. According to local tradition, a herbalist was murdered there on her way home about 160 years ago. Her hand, said to have been protruding from the ground, is supposed to have brought the crime to light. As a shared talking point along the way, the tale offers an unusual insight into local tradition; it remains a story passed down over time.
In the woods just to the left behind the shooting club are the rampart remains of a Celtic square enclosure, about 2,000 years old. It was probably built as a place of worship. Alongside its castle history, Jettingen therefore offers a spoken legend and archaeological traces as distinct historical subjects.
Choose the focus of your holiday
When looking for a holiday apartment in Jettingen, you could start by considering what you want your stay to centre on: the cycle loop and its viewpoints, or the castle’s history, the legend of “Beim Arm” and the Celtic rampart remains. This comparison can help you choose between a continuous cycle tour and individual historical topics.
