The Notre-Dame du Châtelard oratory was inaugurated in 1872. The statue in the Notre-Dame du Châtelard oratory was created in 1862 by the sculptor Louis Rochet (1813–1878). The oratory offers a remarkable panorama of the surrounding landscapes.

The present-day church of Saint-Franc was built between 1900 and 1902, replacing an older church located in the hamlet of Châtelard. The Chapelle de Corbeau de Vaulserre was the southern chapel of the former parish church of Saint-Franc, which was built in 1730. The Chapelle de Corbeau de Vaulserre was preserved when the new church was built in 1902. In front of the entrance to the Chapelle de Corbeau de Vaulserre are the remains of a medieval cross dated 1437.

The Croix Charvet was erected on 27 March 1866 to commemorate the victim of a tragic event in the history of the village. In 2010, Saint-Franc received the “starry village” label from ANPCEN, with the highest rating of five stars for its measures against light pollution.

Nature

Saint-Franc has 12 hectares of wetlands. The highest point in Saint-Franc is at an altitude of 725 metres at the Notre-Dame du Châtelard oratory. Saint-Franc is a municipality that is 35% forested and has several hamlets.

The Guiers Vif and the Guiers Mort merge to form the Guiers River. Before flowing into the Rhône, the Guiers has carved an impressive gorge into the last limestone foothill.

Activities

The Canyon des Gorges de Chailles is classified as an adventure course for experienced participants. It has the advanced level and is suitable for ages 12 and up.
