From the Tour Matagrin, the GR7® follows the watershed between the Atlantic and Mediterranean. The Col de la Croix Cazard is also located at an altitude of 865 m, precisely on the watershed between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. In spring 2021, Violay was designated from the Tour Matagrin as a stage stop on the GR7® crossing of the Massif Central through the parks.
The “Entre Ruisseau et Forêt” circular trail is intended for the general public, school groups and tourists, particularly families.

Culture and History
The Tour Matagrin is freely accessible to the public free of charge from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It previously served as Maître Matagrin’s hunting lodge and was used as an observation post during wartime.
Flint tools were found at the La Truche archaeological site, estimated to be around 40,000 years old. The Fête de la Tour festival takes place every July and celebrates the fine days in the style of a guinguette.
