Chonas-L'amballan: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château de Chonas dates back to the Middle Ages and was entered in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments on July 12, 2000.

Culture and History

The washhouse of Chonas-l'Amballan was built on April 11, 1889.

A fresco in the village was created by a group of 12 students from Lycée Jeanne d’Arc (Péage de Roussillon).

The reconstructed Gallo-Roman road section was installed in Chonas-l'Amballan on Friday, March 29, 2024.

It consists of granite slabs dating approximately to the end of the second half of the 1st century or the beginning of the 2nd century AD.

Landscape and Nature

The Gerbey alluvial forest is home to the rare orchid Epipactis du castor, which is endemic to the middle Rhône Valley.

The south façade of the Château de Chonas stands at an elevated position and offers views over the plain and the valley of Reventin-Vaugris as far as Auberives and the first foothills of the Vercors.

In the Espace Naturel Sensible de la forêt alluviale de Gerbey, wet woodland areas and a reed bed provide a natural habitat for birds.

Trails and Discoveries

The Sentier du Milan Noir is a circular trail running from the village of Chonas-l'Amballan to the body of water.

In the Espace Naturel Sensible de la forêt alluviale de Gerbey, the area designated for activities is limited to a clearing; a round-trip trail leads across a small educational pond to the poplar grove.
