The Chartreuse de Mélan was founded in 1291 as a monastery of the Carthusian order. The Chartreuse de Mélan is connected to the “Art et Nature” trail along the Giffre. Those who choose Taninges for their stay want to rent a holiday apartment there.
Culture
The neoclassical Church of Saint John the Baptist in Taninges was built between 1824 and 1834. Its organ was built in 1895 by the organ builder DUNAND from Carouge. Since 2004, the church has hosted annual concerts and guided tours focusing on the organ.
The Espace Jacquem’Arts is located in the old centre of Taninges on Rue des Arcades and has been open since 1998. Exhibitions featuring sculptures made of wood, stone and metal, oil and acrylic paintings, engravings and prints, photographs, and watercolours are held there.
Nature and Trails
On 26 January 2013, two remarkable natural areas in Taninges were designated as Sites of Community Importance as part of the Natura 2000 network. Together, they cover 1,180 hectares, representing 27 percent of the municipality’s area.
The “Circuit des rives du Foron et du bourg ancien” circular hiking trail is an easy, 1.7-kilometre loop starting in Taninges.

Mont Orchez, a mountain, is located in the immediate surroundings of Taninges. The Pointe de la Couennasse, a summit, and the Pointe du Velard, also a summit, are likewise located nearby. The Pointe de Verand, a summit, is also located in the surroundings of Taninges.
