Nature and Mountain Landscape

In Seythenex, paths and footbridges lead to the upper end of the Grotte et cascade de Seythenex waterfall, which drops 40 metres. There, two consecutive 150-metre-long zip lines run over the waterfall. In the Parc naturel régional du Massif des Bauges, the Grotte et cascade de Seythenex is classified as a Géosite.

The Combe de la Sambuy is a natural site in a mountain landscape with remarkable views of Lac d’Annecy and the Massif du Mont-Blanc. It offers an alpine excursion in a protected environment with exceptional flora. Les charmes de Seythenex leads through flower-filled meadows, shady forests and typical hamlets at the foot of the Massif de la Sambuy, as well as beneath the distinctive peaks of the fourteen Bauges summits rising above 2,000 metres.

Hiking

For a longer circuit, there is Les charmes de Seythenex: the moderately difficult hike is 8.9 kilometres long and includes 434 metres of ascent and 430 metres of descent; the stated duration is 2 hours and 45 minutes. It starts and ends at Place Bernard Pellarin in Seythenex.

The marked Balade à la cascade de Seythenex is shorter: an easy out-and-back hike taking 20 minutes and covering 0.6 kilometres with 50 metres of ascent. The Combe de la Sambuy can be reached on foot from Faverges via Saint-Ruph or from the car park at the former chairlift terminus. There is also an access route through the Vallon de la Bouchasse from Les Chaffauds or the Abbaye de Tamié. The ascent takes almost three hours and includes 850 metres of ascent.

Culture and Structures

The Chapelle des Combes is a Cistercian chapel, whose construction is thought to date back to the 16th century. Its reconstruction took 80 years; the building was completed in 1851 and blessed by Saint-François-de-Sales.

The Pont de Seythenex was inaugurated in 1912 and consists of four arches made of hewn stone. It is 125 metres long and 53 metres high. In 1974, the Pont de Seythenex was closed to traffic; since 2009, it has been open to pedestrians.

Experiences

The Grotte et cascade de Seythenex is home to the only cave open to the public in Haute-Savoie. A 40-minute guided underground tour conveys the effects of erosion at a temperature of 10°C.

At the La Sambuy site, there is a summer toboggan run on rails.
