Culture and History
At the Col du Jaillet stands a Roman granite boundary marker erected in 74 BC. The Roman boundary marker at the Col du Jaillet was classified in 1966.
Cordon’s traditional buildings include wooden granaries. They stand on posts, are often two storeys high, and are located near the residential building. Their purpose was to protect family property from fire.
Things to Do
The Boucle du village is an easy circular trail that takes 30 minutes and is 0.9 kilometres long. It runs through the centre of Cordon, close to the residential buildings and a small stream, on gently sloping terrain.
Cordon’s summer hiking trails pass through mountain pastures and forests and run along streams. The Boucle du Pont des Nants can be cycled using a mountain bike, an electric mountain bike or an electric bicycle.
The Cordon–Sallanches ski area has a beginners’ area with a conveyor belt and the Club Piou-Piou for children aged three and over. It offers green, blue, red and black runs. Bus route Y86 from Sallanches serves Cordon town centre directly.
Village Life
The Journée du Pain de Cordon takes place on the first Sunday in September. The Journée du Pain is a traditional village festival in Cordon centred around making bread using traditional methods.
In 2023, around twenty traditional bread ovens in Cordon were still regularly in use.
