Nature and Activities

Trail no. 16 Suet/La Mare/Traversiers in Saint-Jean-de-Sixt is a difficult route covering 14.7 km, with 1,100 metres of ascent and descent respectively.

Saint-Jean-de-Sixt has two cross-country mountain biking trails that run through forests and alpine meadows. Le Bois de l’Envers is a difficult 7 km cross-country mountain biking loop starting at the Saint-Jean-de-Sixt tourist office, with 220 metres of ascent and descent respectively. The Le Tour du Danay cross-country mountain biking loop starts in Saint-Jean-de-Sixt and runs between Saint-Jean-de-Sixt, Le Grand-Bornand and La Clusaz.

Cycling and Routes

Saint-Jean-de-Sixt lies at the heart of the Route des Grandes Alpes between the Col de la Colombière and the Col des Aravis and is a possible starting point for two stages of this route.

Winter

The Petite boucle du Crêt no. 28 is a winter route suitable for beginners, covering 2.4 km with 80 metres of ascent and descent respectively. At the same time, it is a sunny, family-friendly walking route above the village, with views of Saint-Jean-de-Sixt and the Tournette massif; the route is prepared and does not require snowshoes.

Culture

The Église Saint Jean Baptiste was built in 1868 and replaced the former Église du Crêt. The Chapelle du Villaret was built at the place where Saint Pierre Favre was born on 13 April 1506, on his parents’ farm in the hamlet of Villaret in Saint-Jean-de-Sixt. It was restored in 1982 and is open daily from 1 May to 31 October.

Saint Jean de Zik is a summer concert series held every Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Place de l’ancienne école in Saint-Jean-de-Sixt; a local association offers drinks and snacks during the event.

Food and Drink

At the Ferme du Suet, visitors can take a guided tour explaining the production of Reblochon, followed by a tasting and refreshments.

Connections

Shuttles connect Saint-Jean-de-Sixt, Le Grand-Bornand and La Clusaz, enabling travel between the villages throughout the day.
