La Côte-D'arbroz: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
La Côte-d’Arbroz lies on a south-facing slope at an altitude of between 1,000 and 1,300 m, near the Col de l’Encrenaz. Forests, alpine pastures and distinctive mountain ridges characterize the area; the name “Côte-d’Arbroz” means “wooded slope”.

Nature and conservation
At the Col de l’Encrenaz in La Côte-d’Arbroz, at Char des Quais, a winter wildlife protection zone lies within the Roc d’Enfer Natura 2000 site. The area around Col Ratti, Char des Quais and Vallon de Foron is also subject to a prefectural biotope protection order. Motorized traffic is prohibited there, and dogs must be kept on a leash.
The Alpage de l’Aup is an alpine pasture with views of Mont Blanc, the Aravis range, the Dents du Midi and the peaks of the Vallée d’Aulps. From May to September, it is grazed by Abondance dairy cows.
Hiking and trails
After the Col de la Basse, the “Tour du Char des Quais” crosses an alpine pasture to the summit of Char des Quais. This moderately difficult hike is 5.7 km long and includes 308 m of ascent and 308 m of descent; it takes two hours.
The Alpage de l’Aup can be reached from the Col de l’Encrenaz via a 15-minute walk. Another access route is a hike from the village of Graydon along the “Le tour du Roc d’Enfer” circular trail. The Circuit de l’Encrenaz passes over the Col de l’Encrenaz and through Foron along quiet mountain roads.
The trail to Col Ratti crosses an alpine pasture with Abondance cattle. With a little luck, chamois can be spotted on the lower slopes of Roc d’Enfer.
Alpine pastures and farming
Cattle farming is still practiced in La Côte-d’Arbroz; in summer, herds graze in the higher areas around the Col de l’Encrenaz. From early June to mid-September, visitors can watch the cows at Ferme du Caly being milked from 5 to 6 p.m. At the Alpage de l’Aup, this is possible free of charge every evening at around 5 p.m.
Experiences and events
Relief Montagne offers guided mountain experiences from Chalet La Tapiaz in La Côte-d’Arbroz, including outings with meals in an alpine hut as well as half-day or full-day hikes. From its base in La Côte-d’Arbroz, Relief Montagne also organizes excursions focusing on fauna and flora, activities involving edible plants, and cooking workshops.
The annual “Emmontagnée” procession by Christian and Mathieu, their animals and many friends offers an opportunity to discover this local tradition and taste regional products. At “Le vin chaud des Darbelains”, the Darbelains association offers welcome drinks with mulled wine and small pastries on December 31 and on three Sundays in February.
History and culture
La Côte-d’Arbroz was formerly a hamlet of Les Gets and became independent in 1784. An episcopal decree dated April 23, 1722 allowed La Côte-d’Arbroz to build a church separate from Les Gets. The use and management of the forest historically played an important role in village life in La Côte-d’Arbroz.
