Culture
The Église de Chessenaz was the first church in the Diocese of Annecy to embrace modern religious art.
The Église de Chessenaz was built in the pseudo-Romanesque style around a small choir dating from the 15th century.
Those who choose Chessenaz as their destination can plan to rent a holiday apartment there.
Nature
Chessenaz is one of the nine municipalities that belong to the Natura 2000 site “Les Usses”. This Natura 2000 site includes remarkably well-preserved wetlands and riparian forests.
The ZNIEFF site “Les zones humides de la base du Vuache” also includes Chessenaz. It is home to a species-rich protected flora, including the lady’s-slipper orchid, and consists mainly of alkaline fens in a mosaic with purple moor-grass meadows.
The red-backed shrike is present and breeds in some areas of the ZNIEFF site “Les zones humides de la base du Vuache”.
The marsh fritillary (Euphydryas aurinia) appears to persist at Crêt Pollet in Chessenaz; observations were made there by Jacques Bordon in 2020 and 2021. The purple moor-grass meadow at Crêt Pollet is home to numerous orchids.
