Nature and Activities
The Chemin des Euphorbes is a footpath approximately 4 km long. The walking time is around 1 hour 30 minutes, and the path begins in the village centre.
The Albanais mountain biking area offers varied mountain bike trails for all levels. Mountain bike route 4, “Le Bois au loup”, is 14 km long, easy, and takes approximately 1 hour 35 minutes. It ends in the village centre of Marcellaz-Albanais, passes through the Marais de Praille, and follows rural and forest paths to the Fier.
History and Culture
The present-day Église Saint-Maurice was built between 1842 and 1844. On its grounds, the base of the bell tower of the second church, built in 1625, has been preserved. The church is also associated with a local legend about the “bell tower skull”, which dates back to an incident in 1712.
The name Marcellaz derives from the Gallo-Roman Marcellus and his villa of the same name. The Château de Pieuillet is also connected with the village’s trails: after a 4 km section towards the Château de Pieuillet, mountain bike route 5, “Les bois ronds”, reaches the village centre of Marcellaz-Albanais. The Château de Pieuillet is one of the protected castles.
A necropolis and graves are located at Crêt-Dieu; the site is protected. The Musée de la fausse monnaie et des faux monnayeurs is a French museum dedicated to counterfeit money and counterfeiters from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
Local Area
The Brasserie Distillerie Veyrat in Marcellaz-Albanais produces organic beer, organic cider, organic spirits and organic non-alcoholic beverages. It also operates a beer bar with takeaway sales. Gin creation workshops for private individuals are held there every month.
The farm shop of GAEC de l’Alambic in Marcellaz-Albanais sells goat’s cheese, local cow’s milk cheeses, as well as beef and pork.
