Vétraz-Monthoux: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

On Monthoux Hill, medieval history, a public park and panoramic views come together: the Colline de Monthoux reaches 571 m and offers views west over the Geneva Basin and east towards the Alps. Culture and history

The Château de Monthoux is a former medieval castle built towards the end of the first half of the 12th century. It was the seat of a châtellenie, or mandement, of Faucigny. As a strategic position, Monthoux Hill was important for controlling access from Geneva to Faucigny.

The Église du Chef-Lieu “Saints Pierre et Paul” was extended and remodelled between 1826 and 1828. Its simple neoclassical style is considered characteristic of Savoy’s religious heritage. Votive offerings can still be seen at the foot of the altar dedicated to Saint Albin.

The Chapelle du parc de Haut-Monthoux was built in 1843 on the site of the former keep of the Château de Monthoux. The Parc de Haut-Monthoux is partly surrounded by a wall, the last remaining vestige of a fortress built by Aymon de Faucigny shortly before 1243. A Gothic chapel features remarkable pointed-arch stained-glass windows that are illuminated in the evening.

The “Rêve de Montagnes” festival is free and open to everyone. One week of the festival is devoted entirely to films about the mountains, including wildlife films as well as films about exceptional mountaineering achievements, climbing and the ascent of legendary peaks.

Nature and public spaces

The Parc de Haut-Monthoux was landscaped later and opened to the public. It is a public park of just under 2 hectares on the hilltop. The park contains a pond with water lilies and fish.

The public park in the Centre-Bourg has pétanque courts, play areas and footpaths. Visitors can also explore the educational garden and the two beehives in the Parc de Haut-Monthoux. Around 40% of the Vétraz-Monthoux municipal area consists of land used for agriculture or natural areas.

The Parc de Haut-Monthoux can be reached by bus route 8 to the Livron stop; from there, an approximately 20-minute uphill walk leads to the park.

Agriculture and regional products

The yoghurt from La Ferme de Corly is made exclusively from milk from the farm itself and is available in more than twenty fruit flavours. It contains neither colourings nor preservatives. When visiting La Ferme de Corly, guests can learn how the yoghurt is made and watch the cows being milked.

Climbing and bouldering

Arkose Genevois offers a 1,800 m² bouldering park in Vétraz-Monthoux. It also has a reservable area for climbing courses, holiday courses and children’s birthday parties.
