Aviernoz: Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hiking

The hike to the Plateau du Parmelan offers panoramic views of Lake Annecy and passes through lapiaz formations with grooves, fissures and crevices. The shortest route starts at Chalet de l’Anglettaz at an altitude of 1,500 metres. The hike is located on Route de l’Anglettaz in Aviernoz, 74570 Fillière. Because of the technically demanding crossing of the lapiaz, the Parmelan hike is not recommended for young children or in wet or foggy conditions.

Culture and History

Today’s Saint-Maurice Church in Aviernoz was built between 1897 and 1900 in the Neo-Gothic style and completely rebuilt at the end of the 19th century. It was consecrated in 1932. The main altar ensemble is located in the church; the front of the altar depicts the Last Supper with Christ in the midst of the twelve Apostles.

After the parish was divided in 1682, the church of Aviernoz was affected. The church built at Crêt-des-Pierres between 1682 and 1732 was completely destroyed by an accidental fire in 1835. The church and cemetery of Aviernoz were initially established at Crêt-des-Pierres and relocated in 1896 and 1947, respectively. Traces of the foundations are still visible at the former site; a cross marks the location of the former choir.

Local Life

At the Vogue d’Aviernoz, a traditional meal featuring potato fritters and braised ham is served from 12 noon.
