Hiking

The “Sentier pédestre des Chênes” hiking trail is a stroller-friendly walking route beneath old, centuries-old oak trees. It starts at the car park by the church in Archamps and is open every day year-round.

The “Les Pitons par l’alpage de Chavanne” hiking loop begins in the hamlet of Chez Servant or in the centre of Archamps. It leads through meadows and woodland up to the Grand Piton. From the summit pastures, the loop offers 360-degree panoramas over Geneva and the Alps.

Nature

The wild tulip (Tulipa sylvestris) blooms in spring in several protected areas and is part of Archamps’ local natural heritage. In the past, wild tulips formed dense carpets of flowers between Archamps and Neydens. The wild tulip can be observed in the lower part of the municipal garden next to the Raymond Fontaine building.

Eleven different bat species have been recorded in Archamps; all are protected at national level. The greater horseshoe bat and the western barbastelle have been observed overwintering in the Grotte d’Archamps.

Winter Sports

The La Croisette ski resort has two cross-country ski trails, one red and one blue, with a total length of 26 km. At the ski resort, the only ski lift provides access to a 650 m-long red ski slope. The “Circuit raquettes - Retour Croisette” snowshoeing loop is approximately 5 km long and starts at La Croisette in Archamps.

Culture and History

The Saint-Maurice festival is a village festival held annually in September in Archamps. The parish of Archamps has been documented as dependent on Talloires Abbey since 1145. The parish church of Archamps was consecrated in 1479.

The Saint-Maurice church was rebuilt in the 19th century in two construction phases; work on the choir and nave began in 1846–1848. The ruins of a castle in Archamps belonged in the 13th century to the Montfort nobility, vassals of the Counts of Geneva.

The ruins of Montfort Castle lie at the foot of the Salève at an altitude of approximately 850 m and are difficult to access.

Food and Drink

At the Thursday market in Archamps, farm-produced cheeses and yogurts from Ferme de Montailloux are regularly offered for sale. Traditional butcher’s and sausage products from LD Tradi Savoie are also regularly available there.
