Saint-Julien-En-Vercors: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The easy, approximately one-hour return walk Le chemin des écoliers is 1.8 km long and includes 23 metres of elevation gain and loss. The path follows trails that were formerly used by schoolchildren from the hamlets to get to the village school.

Hiking and landscape

The GR de Pays du Vercors Drômois includes a stage from La Chapelle-en-Vercors to Saint-Julien-en-Vercors. Another route is Le Bienveilleur de Bournillon: it is moderately difficult, 4.5 km long and designed as a return hike with 325 metres of elevation gain.

The Cascade de Moulin Marquis has a drop of almost 400 m. The hike to Moulin Marquis leads through meadows and undergrowth, along paths on the slope and to viewpoints overlooking the surrounding landforms.

Culture and history

The artwork La porte des ancêtres, created in 2018, connects the workshop of sculptor Jérôme Aussibal with the village of Saint-Julien-en-Vercors. Le serpent de lauzes was created in August 2018 during a community workshop. Partition des oiseaux is an artwork from 2015 and is regularly restored.

La Porte du Diable is a natural rock arch formed by erosion. During the Second World War, young resistance fighters from the village hid beneath this rock arch. The path near La Porte du Diable passes under the rock arch and continues through the Bois de l’Allier.

The Stalagmite de St Julien en Vercors is a limestone concretion from the entrance to the Grotte de Barmechinelle. It stands on a stele and is topped by a cross with a crown of thorns.
