Culture and history

The Église Saint-Bach in Suze-la-Rousse is listed as a historic monument. The Croix Saint Sauveur was reinstalled in April 2024, after almost a year of restoration, at the foot of Château de Suze-la-Rousse in the new Jardin des Vignes.

The fortified enclosure of the old village comprises three defensive walls built in the Middle Ages and the 16th century. In the northern section, a long wall stretches from the château to the lower part of the village; a covered chemin de ronde uncovered in 1990 runs along its top.

Suze-la-Rousse’s grain hall has seven weathered pillars and was formerly a market area. The “From the Château to the Village” route passes along the Grand’Rue by the former church with its campanile and the Saint-Sébastien chapel, and runs alongside the stone houses of the old town centre.

Nature and trails

La Garenne, a 23-hectare wooded area, lies in front of the entrance to Château de Suze-la-Rousse. Parc de la Garenne is a wooded park containing various remnants, including one of the last Jeu de Paume courts preserved in France.

The park is freely accessible; depending on the season, it offers orienteering courses, a nature-observation trail in the form of a game, sulky rides and wooden games.

The Canal du Moulin and the Canal du Comte are ecological and cultural heritage landscape features that function as genuine ecosystems. The Canal-du-Comte circular route is an easy 21-kilometre family walk that can begin in Suze-la-Rousse and follows the Canal du Moulin and the Canal du Comte.

Cave la Suzienne offers free wine tastings in its cellar and walks through the vineyards. It works with the Côtes du Rhône, Grignan-les-Adhémar and Côtes du Rhône Villages Suze-la-Rousse appellations.

The Jardin des Vignes at the foot of Château de Suze-la-Rousse contains a collection of more than 70 grape varieties. The “Unusual Wines” workshop takes place at the Université du Vin in Suze-la-Rousse (26790).
