Pierrelongue: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

Construction of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Consolation Chapel began in 1900 and lasted five years. It included a monumental staircase that surrounds the rock and has 75 steps, a crypt dedicated to Saint Joseph, and the construction of the chapel.

A monumental bronze statue of the Virgin and Child was donated by the Duchess of Uzès in 1907. As early as 1428, a keep and a first chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph were built on the rock.

The chapel crypt was converted into a repository for sacred art in the 1980s. The collection of sacred art documents popular religious devotion and is of local artistic and iconographic interest.

The stairway bays leading to the chapel contain statues of Saint Mauritius with a cross and sword, Saint Joseph with a square, a saint with the face of Christ in a medallion, and the praying Holy Virgin.

The altarpiece and the painting „Institution du Rosaire“ date from the 18th century and were placed under protection as movable cultural heritage in 1979. The artwork depicts the apparition of the Virgin before Saint Dominic and Saint Catherine of Siena.

Cycling

The signposted cycle route „Le val de l’Aygue Marse“ passes through Pierrelongue. Within the „La Drôme à vélo“ network, it is signposted with blue marker no. 107.

Hiking and Exploring

Virée Sauvage, based in Pierrelongue, offers professionally guided themed hikes, playful discovery activities, and environmental education. The offerings include hikes or walks on foot as well as orienteering activities.

Pierrelongue can be reached via the D 5 départemental road from Buis-les-Baronnies or Mollans-sur-Ouvèze.
