Saint-Prix: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Prix combines historic religious buildings, chestnut cultivation and the history of the Dolce Via route. The particularly striking 12-kilometre section between Les Nonières and Lamastre passes above Saint-Prix. Routes and Landscape

The Dolce Via is a former railway line that has been converted into a Greenway and, in part, a shared-use path. It is fully signposted and developed, with only a very gentle incline along the route.

For hikers, the difficult circular hike Un Pays et ses Arbres – N°9 covers 13.6 kilometres. It is listed as taking four hours, with 335 metres of ascent and 339 metres of descent, and passes through Saint-Prix, Belsentes and Saint-Jean-Chambre. On the Le Val d'Or route, the paths lead through chestnut groves. The route also presents the “Ericié” preservation technique used in Haut-Vivarais for chestnuts: the fresh fruit was stored in its prickly husk and in chestnut wood.

The La Sumène River flows through Saint-Prix. A former CFD railway line also passed through the village and operated from 1891 to 1968.

Culture and History

The church of Saint-Prix was completed in 1860. Its interior contains paintings and a Byzantine-style ceiling decorated with stars.

The Chapelle Notre Dame de la Pitié was built in 1554, devastated in 1678 and restored in 1867. It features richly articulated architecture with a high altar, apse, nave, choir, stained-glass windows and portal. The chapel is open every day all year round.

The Viaduc de Saint-Prix is also part of the history of the Dolce Via: it consists of five arches, each with a span of 12 metres, as well as a smaller arch over the road, and is considered a heritage site on the Dolce Via. The Chapelle de l’ancien couvent Saint-Joseph is associated with a community of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, founded in Le Puy in 1650.
