The Rocher d'Abraham is a 1,498-metre-high summit and viewpoint overlooking the upper Tanargue. Le Rocher Troué, called “Lou Ron Trooutcha” in the Ardèche dialect, is a geological curiosity in the municipality of Mayres, with a window-like opening in a collection of rocks.
The Peyralade spring is naturally carbonated. From Mayres, it can be reached via the “Peyralade-Montlaur” path.
Culture and History
A hiking trail in Mayres passes by the former lead and silver mines of Lescure. The Saint Médard Chapel near Château de Montlaur was restored in 1988.
The ruins of Château de Montlaur include a keep, a Romanesque gate and corner towers built at a later date. The Notre Dame des voyageurs Chapel is located in Vieux Mayres. It faces the Montlaur fortress and the Saint Médard Chapel, from which it is separated by the national road from Aubenas to Puy en Velay.
