Saint-Nizier-le-Bouchoux offers three circular hiking trails measuring 6.5 km, 12.3 km and 14.7 km. The hiking trails can be used on foot, by bicycle, mountain bike or on horseback.

Nature and Activities

During the hikes, around a dozen ponds can be discovered away from the trails. Fishing is permitted at the Plan d'eau de Mépillat from sunrise to sunset.

Culture

The historic site of Abbaye Notre-Dame du Miroir is located in the vicinity of Saint-Nizier-le-Bouchoux. The wider surrounding region is also home to the Hôtel-Dieu-Musée Greuze museum, the historic site of Chevreaux Castle and Château de Montépin.

The Romanesque church of Saint-Nizier-le-Bouchoux was built from the 11th century onwards. It has a Galonnière and contains an intricately designed altarpiece depicting the Resurrection.

Ferme Bourbon is the only surviving one of four Bresse farms with a Saracen chimney in Saint-Nizier-le-Bouchoux. The mitre of Ferme Bourbon was rebuilt around 1950 after the hood and hearth had disappeared.

The wider surrounding region of Saint-Nizier-le-Bouchoux contains Mont du Gouilla, Mont Verjon, Mont Charvet and Mont Nivigne.

Traditions

During demonstrations in the workshop, steel, copper and brass are worked. The Fête du poulet de Saint-Nizier-le-Bouchoux chicken festival has been held since 1984.
