Culture and History

The Sougey site features the discovery trail Les plumes dans le bocage. The Sougey educational trail is 550 metres long and includes nine stops covering the bocage landscape, built heritage and Bresse poultry. Les Amis du Sougey organise guided tours and events on the site. Aloïs Gury also offers tours of his Bresse poultry farm there. The Domaine du Sougey covers around 50 hectares of meadows surrounding the listed buildings, as well as a historic network of hedges.

The historic trail of Montrevel-en-Bresse is a freely accessible self-guided circular walk with a paper map and explanatory panels in the town centre. It comprises ten numbered stops. La Traverse is a route intended for environmentally friendly mobility, laid out along the former railway line between Bourg-en-Bresse and Chalon-sur-Saône.

Regional Traditions

Two weekly markets are held in Montrevel-en-Bresse every Tuesday and Saturday morning. At the Glorieuses de Bresse, Bresse chickens and Bresse capons with A.O.P. status are sold; the poultry is presented in a typical rolled Bresse style. The Glorieuses de Bresse also take place in Montrevel-en-Bresse every year, with around 30 breeders presenting almost 800 poultry specimens.

Nature and Water

The Grand Lake covers 90 hectares and has a 500-metre-long developed beach. Covering 90 hectares, it offers opportunities for fishing and water sports such as canoeing, pedal boating, electric boating and catamaran sailing. Le Tour du grand lac is an easy 6.5-kilometre circular walking route starting in Montrevel-en-Bresse. The section of the Grand Lake containing the Île aux oiseaux is part of a ZNIEFF; protected bird species breed there in spring.

Faith and Remembrance

The Sanctuaire de Cuet welcomes pilgrims who follow in the footsteps of Pierre Chanel. The programme for the 2026 Fête de Saint Pierre Chanel included a pilgrimage, a solemn Mass, the discovery of the new museum trail, a procession and Vespers. The Espace Pierre-Chanel was inaugurated at the Sanctuaire de Cuet on 15 November.
