Collonges lies between the Rhône and the Jura. The municipality stretches from the banks of the Rhône to the summit of the Jura.

Culture and History

A prominent structure is the Pont Carnot, an approximately 100-metre-long arched bridge with three spans between Collonges and Chevrier. It was opened in 1873 and named after its designer, Marie François Sadi Carnot. At the ends of its parapet are protective niches with viewing points.

The church of Collonges also preserves the walls of a former fortified house. The exterior walls are more than 1.50 metres thick and include an intact loophole. The protected painting “Saint Athanase?” is also located in the Church of Saint Théodule. Opposite the Pont Carnot stood the ruins of the Château d’Ecorans, which once defended the Rhône crossing, made by ferry. The ruins of the Château de Livron lie above Ecorans on Mont-Livron and were historically associated with the De Livron family.

Nature

The Marais de l’Etournel is located on the Rhône in the territory of the municipalities of Collonges and Pougny, at the Pont Carnot. It is a natural area designated as an ENS, with an accessible path for observing migratory birds.
