Chézery-Forens: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The “Sur les traces des passeurs” hiking route begins in Chézery-Forens, follows the Valserine and climbs towards the 1,719 m-high Reculet. The Menthières–Chalet du Sac–Crêt des Frasses route passes through the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park and part of the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve.

Nature

The Crêt de Chalam reaches an elevation of 1,545 m and can be reached from Chézery-Forens via a route of approximately 10 km. The Crêt de Chalam has been designated as a Natura 2000 site and a “Réserve naturelle de France”.

The Saint-Roland Oratory, also known as Fontaine-Bénite, dates back to the 17th century. A monumental painting of Saint Roland can be seen through the oratory’s wrought-iron grille. The Fontaine-Bénite Oratory is a destination for a family outing and can be reached on foot from a roundabout along the Valserine.

The former Cistercian abbey of Chézery was founded in 1140 and almost completely destroyed after the French Revolution.

A freely accessible visitor gallery at the Fromagerie de l’Abbaye uses the workshops to showcase the various stages of cheese production. The Fromagerie de l’Abbaye offers Bleu de Gex AOP, Comté, fresh cheese and other regional products.

At the Chèvrerie de Noire Combe, visitors can watch the evening milking and get to know the farm’s goats, kids and pigs. Watching the milking is possible during the season by prior reservation. The Chèvrerie de Noire Combe produces and sells fresh flavoured and semi-dry goat cheeses, cheese preparations, faisselles, yoghurt and fresh milk.

La Fermentière is located at an altitude of 1,000 m in Menthières, a hamlet of the municipality of Chézery-Forens in Ain. The plateau features extensive natural meadows where the herd is traditionally taken out to graze. La Fermentière offers fresh to dry lactic cheeses, Sérac and goat’s Tommettes matured in a natural cellar.
