Culture and History
The Baptistère de Venasque has been classified as a historic monument under the French protection list of 1840. It was built at the end of the 6th century and remodelled in the 12th century.
Admission to the Baptistère de Venasque is free; visitors can access the first apse and enjoy an overall view of the other three apses. The Eglise Notre-Dame de Venasque houses a 1498 painting of the Crucifixion from the Avignon school.
The Chapelle du Prieuré Saint Pierre de Venasque was built between the 12th and 13th centuries at a former Celtic place of worship. After falling into disrepair, it was restored between 1986 and 1993.

The route to the Ermitage de Saint-Gens passes limestone blades, a fairy chimney, a dry-stone hut and the Ermitage de Saint-Gens, and offers views of the Vaucluse massifs.
The “V09 Venasque et le passage de l'Ascle” route starts in Venasque and is a 4.8-kilometre circular hike. It is rated easy and takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The route passes through the Passage de l'Ascle, which resembles a large staircase carved into the rock.
