Landscape and Trails
Puget-sur-Durance is situated on a steep promontory above the Durance. Puget has karst formations such as Baumes, caves and aven; the famous Arche du Portalas is also located on the ridges.
The historic centre of Puget can easily be explored on foot around Notre-Dame Church and the clustered old houses on the promontory. The Pic de l'Aigle summit is located in the vicinity of Puget; a hike from Puget-sur-Durance to the summit offers views of the Durance Valley, the Alpilles and Montagne Sainte-Victoire. The Tête de Pié Gros and Roque Haute summits are also nearby.
Culture and History
Notre-Dame Church is an important cultural heritage landmark in Puget and dates back to the 13th century. The Reformed Church of Puget-sur-Durance was built in the 19th century and recalls the importance of Protestant history in this part of the southern Luberon.
The renewal of the municipality began in 1619, when a nobleman from Dauphiné granted land to families who cleared and cultivated it. The hydraulic heritage of Les Borrys is part of a forgotten hydraulic heritage that should be preserved.
