Entrechaux: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Northeast of the village, the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth stands as a freestanding Romanesque chapel on a hill. During repairs in 1828, a grave inscription was discovered there that dates back to the 1st century. The chapel also contains reused stones from a Roman temple and Roman villas.

Culture and history

The original building of the Chapelle Saint-André may date back to the 9th century. The apse and the imprint of the western façade have survived; the choir is covered by painted trompe-l’œil decoration. A medieval or Romanesque bridge crosses the Ouvèze with a 24-metre-long, depressed arch that has withstood flooding.

The ruins of the Château d’Entrechaux, dating from the 10th or 11th century, stand on a rocky outcrop. The destruction and looting of the Château d’Entrechaux began on 9 September 1792.

Hiking and climbing

The d’Entrechaux hike is 7.7 kilometres long, easy, and has an elevation gain of 146 metres. It leads to three Romanesque chapels and an oratory above the village, offering views over northern Vaucluse.

The Trois Rivières climbing area in Entrechaux has 239 routes ranging from 10 to 30 metres in length. It offers a variety of climbing opportunities for beginners and experienced climbers.

Landscape and trails

The Chemin des Chapelles, Route 6, begins in Entrechaux and follows an old transport route along the Ouvèze towards the Alps and Italy. The route passes close to the Gorges du Toulourenc, where the Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Anges, attached to the rock, comes into view. It also offers a view down over Entrechaux and its château, situated on a rocky outcrop.
