Aspremont: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Aspremont is a historic village whose houses are arranged in concentric circles around a Gothic church overlooking the Var plain. During a visit, its characteristic features include cobbled lanes, vaulted passageways, blooming gardens, carved stone surfaces, fountains and washhouses.

The Tour du mont Chauve hiking route starts at the entrance car park of Aspremont and follows the GR®5 above the village. The route leads to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Var valley. Cycling

The Tour du mont Cima mountain biking route starts in Aspremont at an altitude of 500 m. It is 16 kilometres long, includes 400 metres of ascent and 400 metres of descent, and takes two and a half hours. The Tour du mont Cima runs exclusively along roads and paths with a consistent gradient. According to its description, it is suitable for family mountain biking.

Culture

The Chapelle des Pénitents blancs, built in the 18th century, has been restored and is used for art exhibitions. The Saint-Jacques church, considered the first church in the county, was consecrated in 1556; in 1766, it was rebuilt in its present form. The St Jacques Le Majeur church features frescoes, a painting, an 18th-century altarpiece and a naive statue of the Virgin Mary; it is considered a 13th- and 16th-century church.

The 17th-century Saint-Claude chapel was built as a votive chapel to ward off the plague. The Notre-Dame des Salettes chapel is one of Aspremont’s sights.

History

From the 11th century until the beginning of the 15th century, the village of Aspremont stood on the rocky spur branching off south of Mont Cima at an altitude of around 800 m. A castle protected it; its ruins are still preserved.
