The Sentier botanique is a 6-kilometre-long, easy circular hiking trail with a walking time of around three hours. The orientation board on the Sentier botanique is located at an altitude of 498 metres and offers views of Lac d’Esparron and the harbour of the village of Esparron-de-Verdon. The Tour du lac d’Esparron route leads from village to village through Haute-Provence and includes crossing the Basses Gorges and discovering the Canal du Verdon.

Culture and History

Château d’Esparron is protected as a historic monument; notable features include its keep, monumental spiral staircase and main courtyard. It developed from a keep built in the 13th century, through extensions in the 15th and 17th centuries, into a Renaissance residence and has remained, almost continuously, associated with the Castellane family to this day.

The historic Vière district below Château d’Esparron-de-Verdon is now accessible as a secured and landscaped walking area among the ruins, offering views of the village and the lake. The Écomusée de la Vie d’antan in the old village of Esparron-de-Verdon displays a collection of traditional costumes and everyday objects from the 18th to the early 20th century.
