Hiking

An orienteering trail exploring the history of Les Thuiles offers two self-guided courses. With 15 markers, the trail leads to remarkable sites.

The Circuit des hameaux begins at the Les Thuiles leisure centre and connects the hamlets of Guérins, Clot Meyran and Ayes through meadows and forests. It is marked with the white-and-red GR and yellow PR trail markings. The Chapelle des Guérins is located on the Circuit des hameaux; the trail leads from the leisure centre towards the hamlet of Guérins, passing by the chapel.

The Circuit des hameaux is an easy, 4.7-kilometre circular hike with a walking time of around two hours and 413 metres of ascent. The hike to Lac de l'Aupillon from Les Thuiles is an 18.4-kilometre circular route with 971 metres of ascent. The Col des Thuiles circular hike is very difficult, 16.9 kilometres long and includes 1,129 metres of ascent.

The Col des Thuiles hiking trail runs through the Gimette state forest at the foot of the Séolanes and includes balcony-like trail sections in the higher areas. A section of the Transubayenne runs through the Gimette larch forest and provides access to the municipality of Méolans-Revel.

Nature

The Ubaye River runs through Les Thuiles. The Basse-Ubaye water route from Les Thuiles to La Fresquière is rated between grades II and III and includes two class III rapids named Les Thuiles and Rio Clar. In summer, the Basse-Ubaye section serves as a beginner route on a calm river; visitors can swim, jump from rocks, and learn river techniques and safety rules there.

Lac de l'Aupillon supérieur is a first-category fishing lake and is subject to special regulations for mountain lakes.

Culture

Les Thuiles owes its name to former pottery works. The Church of Saint Martin has stood in the heart of the village since 1525. It has a square bell tower and a stone-slab roof.
